Sidney-Max Etienne

Founder & Director

My name is Sidney-Max Etienne. I’m the founder and director of Grown in Haiti. I started this work in 2014, not as a project, but as a response. The land was eroding, seeds were being lost, and too many people were being pushed further away from the soil that once fed them. I wanted to change that, starting with what I had.

Grown in Haiti began in the mountains of Cap Rouge, where I live and grow. Over the years, we’ve built a nursery, shared trees and seeds with our neighbors, and helped create local systems that bring food, shade, and balance back to the land. We focus on regenerative agriculture, not as a trend, but as a way of remembering what already works. We support local farmers, create spaces for learning, and make sure that the tools we share are accessible to the people who need them most.

This work is about restoring what was forgotten, protecting what still lives, and making sure the next generation has something real to inherit. I do this work as a father, a land steward, and someone who believes in the power of community to grow what’s needed. Grown in Haiti isn’t just what I lead. It’s how I live.
